  1. interesting stuff.

what do you, as an american, make of his comments on the "christian right" in your country?

he sounds to me like he's generally talking sense, but one niggle I have is that I'm not sure what he means by witnessing to people about your faith not belonging in "the public square".

  2. the public square is where you gather to talk about topics relating to the general populace. he's not saying that you shouldn't share your faith with the general populace, just that you shouldn't do it during a time when the point of the gathering/discussion is to talk about general populace topics, like health care, government, transportation issues, food security, etc.

as far as his topics regarding the christian right, i think he's right on. the anger, venom and hatred that pours out of people towards anyone that disagrees with them is atrocious. to be fair, the same can often be said of the christian left. they just tend to be a little more disorganized about it.

  3. this video was particularly timely for me to come across because that day i had responded to a friend's link on FB in which he said that he's surprised the democrats aren't puking on themselves and then linked to a video in which obama was shown flying through the air on a unicorn that was farting rainbows. it was clearly meant to be derogatory and i felt it was inappropriate for a christian to post. this guy rants and raves a lot about politics and i usually ignore him, but this kinda put me over the top so i spoke up. if i was a non-christian democrat, i certainly wouldn't be interested in listening to anything this guy had to say about God since it certainly hadn't stopped this guy from acting like a jerk.

  4. *sigh* I've come across a little bit of that sort of behaviour online, and heard about some of what goes on in the US. Some fellow Christians, whilst agreeing with me about a whole load of issues, make me squirm by the way they express it.

There was a woman I came across here on Multiply who was making a big song and dance of standing with Israel. Great, I thought, until I saw a comment she made about the Palestinians in Gaza, she was enjoying their suffering! and when I tried to point out that many of these people are stuck there not out of choice but because that's where they were born and they have no alternative, I got such a horrible reaction that I thought, I don't think I want these kind of people standing with my country!

Not to mention when a gay friend told me about a website called "godhatesfags" - where do these people get this from? Have they forgotten that God so loved the world...

    I could go on :(
