Here's another quote from the same book, "the ultimate goal of the church is to take the gospel to all people groups." What do you think? Is the ultimate goal evangelism? I don't mean "is it a goal of the church?" but "is it the ultimate goal of the church?"

  1. what happened to "the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever"? I would think that would be the chief end of the church as well, and that a part of that would be evangelism.

  2. that's Exactly what i was thinking.

i think sometimes people are so into what their thing is that they think everyone's thing should be their same thing and when it's not, those other people must not be following God as closely or as well. i'd like to his this guy on the head. better yet, i'd like to send him the introverts in the church book. at least as an opener. or baab's book. that would be even better because it's more well rounded. THEN i'll go hit him on the head.

  3. because hitting people on the head is so definitely part of glorifying God and enjoying him forever? ;o)

  4. yes! yes, that's it exactly!

when people way, "what would jesus do?" i like to answer, "he'd hit them on the head." and i like to think that i'm right about that. especially when the other person disagrees with me.

*does a little "hitting other people on the head" jiggy dance*

  5. this kind of reminds me of something I heard from a pastor once - when it was suggested to him that not everyone is actually cut out for evangelism, his reaction was: "but isn't this what we were saved for?" I'm afraid my logic kicked in and I thought: so, say the whole world but one person have been saved, what about that very last person? will God stop there because he doesn't need anyone to do evangelism any more?

but this whole thing of trying to pin down what the ultimate goal is... like people making sweeping statements about "what the Gospel is all about"... life's more complex than that.

  6. this author uses "the gospel" or "the gospel of grace" as the reason for much of what he's proposing. but he hasn't explained why or even what he means by "the gospel." from how he's described it, the only things i really can say he believes for sure are that: 1) the gospel has been chained, 2) the gospel needs to be unchained, 3) the gospel gets people to do stuff that they wouldn't otherwise do and 4) sometimes the gospel is "of grace" and that gets people to do even more than they would have done.

  7. *eyeroll* that's the trouble, people don't bother to define their terminology or to show where in the Bible they got their ideas from.

chained? *double eyeroll with extra chillies*
