Should Christians be building walls or tearing them down? This is a totally open-ended question. Hit me with your best shot.

  1. Interesting. The only answers I got were via FB. And they were both for tearing down. But given that there's an entire site called wallbuilders that touts itself as being a group that support religious and righteous goals, there are obviously some who think walls are important.

  2. is there a context to this? what sort of walls do they think are important?

(my instinctive reaction to your question would be tearing walls down, but maybe there's something that just doesn't come to mind immediately.)

  3. according to the "about us" page, they "have chosen this historical concept of "rebuilding the walls" to represent allegorically the call for citizen involvement in rebuilding our nation's foundations. As Psalm 11:3 reminds us, "If the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do?"

their goals are to "exert a direct and positive influence in government, education, and the family by (1) educating the nation concerning the Godly foundation of our country; (2) providing information to federal, state, and local officials as they develop public policies which reflect Biblical values; and (3) encouraging Christians to be involved in the civic arena."

  4. oh, that doesn't sound like building walls in the sense of putting up barriers. I wouldn't have picked wall building as a metaphor to describe this.

  6. yes, I'm sure that's not the sort of thing they had in mind. I expect they were thinking about the Ezra/Nehemiah stuff about rebuilding the walls of the Temple.

  7. that might be where they got the idea in the first place, but from looking at their website and from hearing people talk who adore the site, i get the impression that the goal is sorta to remove walls -- specifically, they want to take rules that are specifically for those who follow God and they want to impose them upon people outside of that group of people. ... something that actually tends to lead to everyone else putting up walls to keep them out.

so they're for wall building in a rather round about way, by forcing others to build them. ... or so it seems.

i still think the name is weird.
