Is adoration worship?

9 comments:

  1. I think adoration is part of it.

    was there a context to this question?

  2. I got to thinking about it because when we have our congregational prayer times (which is during "Sunday school"), there's a set time for adoration. I thought of that when I was thinking about how our congregational worship in general and I was thinking that our last prayer meeting was more worshipful than they have been (and even more worshipful, in my opinon, than many of our "worship services" are). But in our denomination, I don't think I'd be officially allowed to call the "adoration" part of the prayer time "worship" which got me to thinking about the two and their intersection.

  3. ah, church jargon is a minefield... I don't know about your church but in many churches the term "worship" is used to describe the time of singing songs and/or hymns (I've never worked out what the difference between songs and hymns is, but that's another story). and then I remember in my Anglican days being taught about how your personal prayer time should be divided into ACTS - Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication - which I'm afraid for someone who functions intuitively is just not a realistic possibility...

    but I think I'm just rambling now... (an intuitive ramble? lol)

  4. getting back to topic, I think to worship God is to love and adore him and to express that in all sorts of ways - one of which is to simply obey him in our day to day life.

  5. that's the order we use during our sunday school prayer times. (we use one sunday morning a month to just pray. then the rest of the sundays we cover whatever topic we're currently on.)

  6. i would say that's our "worship time" but we also have a "worship service" which, i think according to the book of church order, must have an ordained minister present and must include a sermon. (i'd love to know where they found all that in the bible.)

  7. I'd have thought that any church service is a worship service, or else what is it for?

    but worship is so much more than what goes on in church.

  8. I've heard people say that the A-C-T-S thing is because of the order in the "Lord's Prayer" but actually, if you read it, it's not in that order at all.

    Our Father in heaven,
    hallowed be your name,
    your kingdom come,
    your will be done,
    on earth as in heaven.

    OK, so that's getting on for being an A.

    Give us today our daily bread.

    Straight onto the S.

    Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

    More S, but there's an implicit C in there I suppose.

    Save us from the time of trial
    and deliver us from evil.

    More S.

    For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours

    now and for ever.

    More A.

    So it's ASCSA and no T at all that I can see.

  9. hmmm, so...

    SCSA = CTS
    ACS^2 = CTS
    then divide both sides by CS to get:
    AS = T

    so it looks like there is some T in there afterall. it's just masquerading as a little adoration mixed with supplication. ;-)
