The Brady Bunch

To what extent can the television show, The Brady Bunch, be used as a metaphor for the church? Talk amongst yourselves.

  1. oh my goodness... I don't remember enough of the bb to say. except that they were a family, obviously. the rest is lost in the mists of time.

  2. I'm gonna need some hints here. All I'm getting is that Mike, the dad, would be Pope, making Carol the priest. . .if Greg were the lead alter boy then that tell-all book where they were getting it on would be quite prescient.

Alice would be the nun, which makes sense as she was the only one actually doing anything useful.

  3. lol! that's not at all what i was thinking. but your version is much more entertaining. :-)

i was thinking along the lines of two families joining and learning to get along despite their differences. (it was kind of in keeping with the bonhoeffer quote i posted.)

  4. interesting... starting to think along these lines I find myself thinking it's more like the other way round - one family split apart :(

  5. Oh I see. Ya, our church is a mix, which has made finding a settled minister a challenge. But like a rough marriage, we stay for the benefit of the kids.

  6. It teaches family, working together as a team, and overall, doing the right thing. Plus, working with adversity (since Alice is a non-family member, but treated as family, and she gives "blessings" to the middle child Jan for being able to relate to the middle child syndrome)

  7. that's great!

i was trying to think how alice would fit in. the only scene i really remember with her in it involved her crying her eyes out as she chopped onions. ;-) so i had a harder time thinking out how she'd fit in.

  8. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." -- Galatians 3:28

"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." -- Philippians 2:1-4
